Back to School: Philippines

March 2026

Since 2007, we’ve worked in the Philippines, one of the world’s most typhoon-prone countries, rebuilding schools damaged by severe storms and extreme weather. Hit “Apply to Volunteer” to learn more about joining us between March 10 and July 18, 2026.

Urgent need for volunteers

Disaster Profile

The Philippines is one of the most typhoon-impacted countries globally, with roughly 20 impacting the region annually.

Last year, Typhoon Pepito destroyed more than 400 schools. Education is often overlooked in the immediate aftermath of a disaster, leaving children out of school for months, years, or sometimes indefinitely. At AH&H, we work together with communities to bring children back to safe schools where they can learn, play and heal. With their children supported at school, parents have the freedom to rebuild their homes, go back to work, and move forward with their community.

Our Response

Starting March 2026, we will roll up our sleeves to rebuild Salvacion Elementary School.

The photo above shows the school’s current conditions, captured in fall 2025. While parts of the structure are severely damaged, the other two classrooms in this building continue to be used every day.

The project will include:

  • 5 disaster-resilient classrooms
  • A new canteen
  • Bathroom repair & installation of a water filtration system to secure access to drinking water for the school  & community
  • A beautiful playground to offer a safe place to play
  • Landscaping
  • A storm drainage system
  • Female Mason Training Program
  • Community trainings: Disaster Risk Reduction, Child Protection & WASH

Directly supporting more than 128 children, and future generations, the combination of Cement Bamboo Frame Technology (Permanent) and Resilient & Sustainable buildings will provide students with a safe learning environment and a beautiful campus where the entire community can thrive.
