Santa Ana Necoxtla’s school handover

We proudly celebrated the handover of brand-new, sustainable and earthquake-resilient classrooms and student shelter in Santa Ana Necoxtla, Puebla.

“This school once had nothing. We endured the rain, the sun and the wind. Then came the earthquake. We didn’t have the resources; we lacked so much to rebuild. And this school now, I once dreamed of it, but I never imagined it would be like this. It turned out even better than the dream itself. Truly, thank you.”

Maura, a teacher at Albergue Escolar No. 48.

This heartfelt message comes from Maura, a teacher in Santa Ana Necoxtla, Puebla, Mexico, where we recently celebrated the completion and handover of brand-new, sustainable and earthquake-resilient schools. Today, more than 360 children are back in safe classrooms, places that will nurture learning for generations to come.

Built in partnership with the local community, the project includes Albergue Escolar No. 48, which provides a weekday housing facility for children traveling from vulnerable homes to attend school, and upgrades to three nearby schools with safe, sustainable classrooms, modern bathrooms, WASH facilities, a bamboo kitchen, rainwater harvesting, and access to computers. In addition, we constructed a brand-new, custom playground that will see generations of children grow and play.

This newest program completion is also a celebration of community strength. Three local women trained through our Female Mason Program contributed their skills to this rebuild, leaving behind a legacy of strength and progress for future generations.

Eight years after the devastating 2017 earthquakes, this handover is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we work together: safe schools, brighter futures and hope that endures.
