Protecting our Youth: Online Safety Training
In a vital effort to safeguard our youth, our Community Coordinator JM hosted an interactive Child Protection workshop for the students. The session empowered children with the essential knowledge needed to recognize the difference between “good” and “bad” touch, helping them build a strong foundation for personal boundaries and self-advocacy.
Expanding beyond physical safety, the lesson also tackled the digital realm, raising awareness about pressing online dangers such as cyberbullying and grooming. By equipping students with these practical life skills, the initiative ensures our young learners feel confident, protected, and prepared to navigate both their physical and digital environments safely.
From Storm Damage to Disaster-Resilient Classrooms
The rebuilding process began in March 2026, when All Hands & Hearts mobilized to undertake an extensive restoration of the damaged campus. What was once a storm-damaged site is now a safe, disaster-resilient campus built to serve 128 children, their teachers, and future generations. The field team executed a complete site overhaul, delivering safer classrooms, clean drinking water access, modern sanitation facilities, a restored canteen, and a brand-new playground where students can finally play again. Beyond new builds, teams completed full refurbishment work on two existing classroom structures, sanding the surfaces inside and out to prepare the campus for a fresh coat of paint.
The hands-on construction effort required intensive engineering and skilled labor. Teams tied rebar for the plinth beams, raised pedestals, prefabricated formwork, and made precise structural adjustments to guarantee the buildings can withstand future storms. The build also thoughtfully incorporated amakan, a traditional Filipino woven bamboo paneling. Chosen for its proven disaster resilience, amakan’s lightweight and porous design keeps classrooms naturally cool while resisting heavy rains, strong winds, and earthquakes. Having previously proven its durability by standing strong through a major typhoon during other past rebuilding projects made in The Philippines such as the OBI School, amakan provides a sustainable, easily repairable solution that fits the island’s climate perfectly.
A Celebrated Handover: Restoring Hope, Stability, and Smiles in Salvacion
Finally, the school was handed over at the end of July. This was a joyous celebration marked by traditional dances, speeches, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. For parents and teachers, watching the kids rush to explore their new school was a powerful reminder of what dedicated disaster response can achieve. This massive undertaking was made possible through strong partnerships, with critical support from donors Home Credit Philippines and Happy Hearts Czech, along with key partners at Streetlight. With safer classrooms officially reopened, All Hands & Hearts helped deliver more than just new structures, they restored stability and a brighter future for the entire Salvacion community. While Salvacion is ready, we are still working on next schools to restore.
