Every day, Aura’s kitchen in La Guaira turns ingredients into more than 100 meals. Aura is one of the community members who became part of the response from the beginning. She turned her home into a community hub and kitchen and, after the earthquakes, she also opened her home to a family that needed somewhere to stay.
We’re proud to support community leaders like Aura with water filtration systems and training to help provide safe drinking water for survivors for the months ahead.
A response built within the community
Community kitchens can work quickly after a disaster because much of what they need already exists. There is a place to cook. There are people who know how to prepare food at scale. And, importantly, there are relationships with the people around them.
All Hands & Hearts has worked with community members and local partners across Venezuela to support these existing networks, helping food and other essential supplies continue reaching affected families.
Aura gave the community a place to gather, socialize, eat, and even get clean water. Since her home became a natural gathering place for the community, she hosted the water filters for people to come get clean water for daily consumption.
Her generosity transformed into more than 100 meals a day, a safe water hub, a community safe haven and a refuge for a family in need. Aura is the perfect example that the real heroes are the people that show up for their communities.
