September 5, 2024 - 8:00 (EDT) Typhoon Yagi - Update 2

Yagi has increased in strength and is now bringing wind speeds up to 130 mph near the eye. Parts of southern China are preparing for the arrival of Yagi on Friday morning by closing schools and delaying flights. All Hands and Hearts is monitoring Typhoon Yagi and its impacts.

September 4, 2024 - 14:00 (EDT) Typhoon Yagi - Update 1

On 2 September 2024, Tropical Cyclone Yagi made landfall in Casiguran, Aurora, the Philippines. The cyclone, which traversed mainland Luzon, initially weakened but has since intensified into a typhoon. Forecasts predict that Yagi will reach peak intensity between late Friday and early Saturday. It is expected to pass by Hainan, China, before heading toward Northern Vietnam. All Hands and Hearts continues to monitor its path and impact.

August 29, 2024 - 10:00 (EDT) Typhoon Shanshan - Update 1

On August 29, Typhoon Shanshan made landfall in Kyushu, Japan, bringing torrential rain and wind gusts up to 252 km/h (172 mph). The storm has caused widespread damage, flooding roads and halting transportation. Evacuation orders have been issued for five million people, with four deaths and at least 80 injuries reported. Japan’s Meteorological Agency has issued a rare “special warning” due to the severe risk of landslides and flooding. All Hands and Hearts is closely monitoring the situation.

August 28, 2024 - 13:00 (EDT) Sudan Flooding - Update 1

The Arbaat Dam, north of Port Sudan, collapsed following severe rainfall and flooding, killing at least 60 people, with over 100 still missing. The dam’s failure, which supplied water to Port Sudan, has devastated nearby villages and displaced thousands. Rescue efforts are ongoing as authorities respond to the crisis. All Hands and Hearts will continue to monitor the situation.

August 27, 2024 - 11:00 (EDT) Tropical Storm Hector - Update 2

Tropical Storm Hector continues to move westward but has become less organized over the past 12-24 hours. Hector will be moving over the cool wake of Hurricane Gilma, which could result in a more rapid weakening.

August 27, 2024 - 10:00 (EDT) Hurricane Hone - Update 3

Tropical Storm Hone will continue its path away from the Hawaiian Islands and pass well north of Johnston Island tonight. Gradual weakening is anticipated over the next couple of days and Hone is forecast to be downgraded to a post-tropical low by Thursday and dissipate by Friday.

August 27, 2024 - 9:00 (EDT) Hurricane Gilma - Update 5

Rapid weakening of Hurricane Gilma is expected today, with steady weakening continuing after that. Gilma is forecast to be downgraded to a remnant low by Thursday night.

August 26, 2024 - 13:00 (EDT) Hurricane Gilma - Update 4

Hurricane Gilma continues to move toward the west near 8 mph. Although some weakening is expected over the next few days, Gilma is still forecasted to be a hurricane when it passes the central Pacific basin on Tuesday.

August 26, 2024 - 10:00 (EDT) Tropical Storm Hector - Update 1

Tropical Storm Hector has formed in the Eastern Pacific. Hector is moving toward the west near 10 mph and has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. 

August 26, 2024 - 8:00 (EDT) Hurricane Hone - Update 2

Hone passed just south of Hawaii’s Big Island over the weekend and brought heavy rain, strong winds and hazardous waves. The storm weakened from a hurricane to a tropical storm as it moved through the area.

August 23, 2024 - 04:00:00 (UTC) Hurricane Gilma - Update 3

Hurricane Gilma, now a Category 3 storm with sustained winds of 120 mph, continues to move slowly across the East Pacific. Currently located over 1,000 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii, and west-southwest of Baja California, it is expected to remain a major hurricane through Friday. While no coastal warnings are in effect yet, Gilma is projected to approach Hawaii by the end of the month, where is is anticipated to bring hurricane-force winds, heavy rainfall and hazardous surf. All Hands and Hearts will continue to monitor the path and impacts of this storm.

August 23, 2024 - 03:00:00 (UTC) Hurricane Hone - Update 1

Tropical Storm Hone formed in the central Pacific Ocean and is moving westward at 16 mph towards Hawaii. Tropical storm conditions are possible on Hawaii’s Big Island later Saturday into Sunday. Hone is forecast to gradually strengthen and bring heavy rainfall, strong winds and hazardous surf to the Hawaiian Islands over the weekend. All Hands and Hearts is taking every precaution to ensure the safety of our staff and volunteers on Maui. We are proactively relocating our team to secure shelter while continuing to monitor the storm’s path and impacts closely.

August 22, 2024 - 02:00:00 (UTC) Hurricane Gilma - Update 2

Hurricane Gilma has intensified into a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 115 mph and is forecasted to continue moving west-northwest over the next several days. 

August 22, 2024 - 12:00:00 (UTC) Connecticut Flooding - Update 2

Flooding and heavy rainfall in Connecticut resulted in at least two deaths and required search and rescue teams to assist more than 100 people in the southwest part of the state on Sunday night.

August 21, 2024 - 10:00:00 (UTC) Hurricane Gilma - Update 1

Hurricane Gilma has formed in the Pacific and is moving westward on a potential path headed for Hawaii. There is another tropical disturbance further west that has a high likelihood of developing into a tropical storm.

All Hands and Hearts is closely monitoring this storm and its trajectory. 

August 21, 2024 - 08:30:00 (UTC) Connecticut Flooding - Update 1

Historic rainfall has inundated much of Connecticut with intense flooding. Over 16 inches of rainfall fell in just a couple of hours.

August 19, 2024 - 03:00:00 (UTC) Hurricane Ernesto - Update 8

Hurricane Ernesto made landfall in Bermuda on Saturday as a Category 1 hurricane, bringing heavy winds and rain. It is now moving toward Newfoundland, with an expected arrival tonight or early Tuesday.

August 16, 2024 - 05:00:00 (UTC) Hurricane Ernesto - Update 7

Hurricane Ernesto is forecasted to pass near or over Bermuda on Saturday morning. Heavy rainfall from Ernesto is expected to impact Bermuda through the weekend and is likely to cause significant life-threatening flash flooding.

August 15, 2024 - 03:00:00 (UTC) Hurricane Ernesto - Update 6

Hurricane Ernesto continues to strengthen as it moves north toward Bermuda and could approach major hurricane strength by Friday.

Tropical Storm Ernesto has been upgraded to Hurricane Ernesto, making it the third hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. Heavy rainfall is expected to cause flash flooding and mudslides today in the Virgin Islands and parts of Puerto Rico.
