Hurricane Beryl

Hurricane Beryl is the second named storm and the first named hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. Breaking the record as the earliest Category 5 hurricane forming on July 1, Beryl first made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane in Grenada before continuing west through the Caribbean leaving behind a trail of destruction.

On July 8, Beryl made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane near Matagorda, Texas, and has veered northeast past Houston, Texas.

July 11, 2024 - 12:00 (EDT) - Update 21

Our full DART has arrived in Grenada to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Beryl. The impact is widespread and the team is traveling to Carriacou to further assess and connect with local partner organizations.

July 9, 2024 - 10:00 (EDT) - Update 20

After thrashing southeastern Texas as a Category 1 hurricane, Beryl has left more than 2.2 million people throughout Texas without power as of Tuesday morning according to PowerOutage.us. Beryl has reduced in strength with maximum sustained winds near 30 mph and is now making its way across the United States. Heavy rainfall will result in scattered flash flooding today into tonight from portions of the Lower Missouri and Mid Mississippi Valleys into the Great Lakes.

July 8, 2024 - 17:30 (EDT) - Update 19

The center of Beryl has moved past Houston, Texas, and has turned toward the northeast. Beryl continues to produce flash flooding and tornadoes over eastern Texas and western Louisiana posing a major threat to the surrounding areas. More than 2.7 million homes and businesses are without power according to PowerOutage.us with dangerous heat forecast in the coming days. 

July 8, 2024 - 12:00 (EDT) - Update 18

With maximum sustained winds of 70 mph, Beryl has been downgraded to a tropical storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Texas coast from north of Port O’Connor northward to Sabine Pass.

In addition to our team going to the Caribbean, All Hands and Hearts is sending a DART to Texas to support communities impacted by Beryl.

July 8, 2024 - 8:15 (EDT) - Update 17

Our DART is en route to the Caribbean, some of the areas first affected by Beryl earlier last week, with boots on the ground in the coming days. As we continue to connect with global partners, we are identifying where All Hands and Hearts can provide the most assistance.

Beryl made landfall in Texas as a hurricane bringing life-threatening storm surge, damaging winds and flooding. Moving at speeds near 12 mph, Beryl has maximum sustained winds near 75 mph with even higher gusts. July 7, 2024 - 14:00 (EDT) - Update 16

Beryl is forecast to bring damaging hurricane-force winds to portions of the Texas coast tonight and early Monday. Flash and urban flooding is expected across portions of the middle and upper Texas Gulf Coast and eastern Texas through Monday night.

July 6, 2024 - 11:00 (EDT) - Update 15

Although Beryl has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm, there is an increasing risk of damaging hurricane-force winds and life-threatening storm surges along portions of the lower and middle Texas coast late Sunday into Monday.

July 5, 2024 - 17:00 (EDT) - Update 14

Now classified as a tropical storm, Beryl is currently unleashing strong winds, heavy rainfall and hazardous storm surges across much of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Beryl is expected to regain hurricane status on Sunday as its center moves over the Gulf of Mexico.

July 5, 2024 - 11:00 (EDT) - Update 13

Hurricane Beryl is moving west-northwest at 16 mph. The center of Beryl is expected to pass over the northern Yucatan Peninsula today. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 85 mph. Rapid weakening will continue as Beryl moves inland over the Yucatan Peninsula, but slow re-intensification is expected once it re-enters the Gulf of Mexico.  

July 4, 2024 - 9:00 (EDT) - Update 12

Strong winds, dangerous storm surges, damaging winds and areas of flooding are expected to occur in the Cayman Islands today where a Hurricane Warning remains in effect. Beryl has maximum sustained winds near 120 mph making it a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.

July 3, 2024 - 17:00 (EDT) - Update 11

Hurricane conditions are currently impacting parts of Jamaica. Beryl is anticipated to bring 4 to 8 inches of total rainfall to Jamaica through Wednesday, with some areas potentially receiving up to 12 inches. Hurricane conditions are forecasted to reach the Cayman Islands later tonight or early Thursday.

July 3, 2024 - 9:30 (EDT) - Update 10

Hurricane Beryl is moving west-northwest near 20 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue throughout the day. Hurricane conditions are expected to reach the coast of Jamaica within the next few hours. As Beryl continues to move across the Atlantic, All Hands and Hearts is preparing to respond by forming a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART).

July 3, 2024 - 6:00 (EDT) - Update 9

Although weakening is forecast during the next day or two, Beryl remains a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph. Life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides are expected over much of Jamaica and southern Haiti through the day. Its exact trajectory is unknown, Beryl is forecast to remain a hurricane as it approaches the Yucatan Peninsula and Belize late Thursday.

July 2, 2024 - 17:00 (EDT) - Update 8

Hurricane Beryl, now a Category 4 hurricane,  is moving toward the west-northwest at 22 mph with sustained winds of 155 mph. Although the system has slightly weakened, Beryl is expected to be at or near major hurricane intensity when it impacts Jamaica on Wednesday and the Cayman Islands on Wednesday night.

July 2, 2024 - 11:30 (EDT) - Update 7

After making landfall on Carriacou Island, Hurricane Beryl intensified into a Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 165 mph. A hurricane warning has been issued for Jamaica, where hurricane conditions are expected on Wednesday. 

July 1, 2024 - 12:00 (EDT) - Update 6

Hurricane Beryl made landfall over Grenada’s Carriacou Island as a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph.

July 1, 2024 - 10:00 (EDT) - Update 5

Hurricane Beryl, the earliest Category 4 hurricane on record in the Atlantic, is currently approximately 50 miles east of Grenada and moving at 20 mph. All Hands and Hearts is closely monitoring this storm and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

June 30, 2024 - 19:45 (EDT) - Update 4

Hurricane Beryl is now an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained windspeeds near 130 mph with even higher gusts. The center of Beryl is expected to move across the Windward Islands on Monday morning. Hurricane warnings are in effect for Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadine Islands, Grenada and Tobago with less severe tropical storm warnings and watches in place for the surrounding areas. All Hands and Hearts is closely monitoring the trajectory and impact of this storm.

June 29, 2024 - 22:00 (EDT) - Update 3

Tropical Storm Beryl has been upgraded to Hurricane Beryl. It is forecast to quickly intensify into a major hurricane bringing life-threatening winds and storm surge to the Windward Islands starting Sunday night. Beryl is quickly moving on a west-northwestward motion at 22 mph. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 80 mph with continued and rapid strengthening expected in the forecast.

June 29, 2024 - 14:00 (EDT) - Update 2

Tropical Storm Beryl is moving west at 23 mph and is expected to move across the Windward Islands late Sunday night and Monday as a major hurricane. All Hands and Hearts is monitoring the track of this storm.

June 28, 2024 - 23:00 (EDT) - Update 1

Tropical Storm Beryl has formed in the Atlantic and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Windward Islands. At the time, there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
