Tropical Storm Hone will continue its path away from the Hawaiian Islands and pass well north of Johnston Island tonight. Gradual weakening is anticipated over the next couple of days and Hone is forecast to be downgraded to a post-tropical low by Thursday and dissipate by Friday.
Hone passed just south of Hawaii’s Big Island over the weekend and brought heavy rain, strong winds and hazardous waves. The storm weakened from a hurricane to a tropical storm as it moved through the area.
Tropical Storm Hone formed in the central Pacific Ocean and is moving westward at 16 mph towards Hawaii. Tropical storm conditions are possible on Hawaii’s Big Island later Saturday into Sunday. Hone is forecast to gradually strengthen and bring heavy rainfall, strong winds and hazardous surf to the Hawaiian Islands over the weekend. All Hands and Hearts is taking every precaution to ensure the safety of our staff and volunteers on Maui. We are proactively relocating our team to secure shelter while continuing to monitor the storm’s path and impacts closely.
