Disaster Profile
The 2025 Cebu earthquake was one of the most destructive disasters in the central Philippines in recent years.
The 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Cebu Island on September 30, shaking the central Philippines and causing widespread devastation. Tremors were felt across the region, triggering landslides, flooding and structural damage to homes, schools and public infrastructure. Thousands of families were displaced, many forced to sleep under tarps or in shared tents, often without access to clean water or sanitation. Dangerous aftershocks continued for weeks, keeping residents in constant danger. In total, tens of thousands of people were affected, with entire communities left struggling to find safety, shelter, and essential supplies.

Our Response
We are leading an ongoing recovery effort in Cebu to support earthquake-affected communities through local partnerships and lasting solutions.
AH&H has been supporting disaster-affected communities in the Philippines for years, with previous programs in typhoon-impacted communities across the country. Now in Cebu, an island province of the Philippines, we’ve been able to mobilize our ongoing in-country presence and partnerships to respond to one of the most destructive earthquakes in recent Philippine history.
The first phase of our response focused on urgent relief, including the distribution of generators and large-scale delivery of food and essential supplies across six Barangays that reached over 15,000 households. Now, we are building 35 custom-designed shelters in Tulibao, made of local sustainable Amakan structures, to provide families with safe and dignified temporary housing while they rebuild their homes.
By working alongside trusted community organizations, we aim to ensure a coordinated, community-led recovery that provides safety, dignity and lasting support for families affected and still displaced by the earthquake.
