Ever since the huge 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal in 2015, over 16,000 schools across the country were left damaged or completely destroyed. Sindhuli District was one of the 14 regions hit hardest. In the years since, recurring monsoon rains, flash floods, and severe storms have continued to impact communities across Nepal, making recovery a long, difficult journey for rural schools.
At Shree Kamala Basic School in the village of Bhatahi, 184 students and 12 teachers have been making it work in old, unsafe buildings for over a decade. The teachers never gave up, keeping lessons going even when the classrooms weren’t safe. But now, their wait for a brand-new school is finally over!

What We’re Building Together
We’re excited to break ground on a complete campus makeover from November 2026 through April 2027. Together, we will build:
- 9 Earthquake-Safe Classrooms: Replacing damaged buildings with strong, disaster-resilient spaces built to last.
- Clean Water & Proper Restrooms: Adding a new water filter for clean drinking water and upgrading from two to five toilet rooms. This makes a massive difference for young girls staying in school!
- A Fun, Safe Playground: Providing proper desks and a safe outdoor space where kids can run around and be kids.
Beyond the physical building, local women are joining our Female Mason Training Program. They’ll learn valuable construction skills and earn certified, fair-paying jobs in a trade usually reserved for men. Plus, we’re hosting fun, practical workshops for the whole village on emergency safety, child protection, and health.
This project builds on the work All Hands & Hearts has done across Nepal since 2015. Over the years, we’ve supported more than 32 schools in Nepal (385 schools worldwide), built maternity blocks, and helped over 9,900 kids return to learning safely (125,000 students globally).
