The intense rainfall has caused more than 500 landslides across California since December 30, 2022. In addition to the landslides, the atmospheric river caused heavy winds that moved trees into dangerous positions, threatening homeowners and their properties. Today, All Hands and Hearts sent a small team to Berry Creek to assess the needs of the community and begin removing hazardous trees.
Our team in California has connected with local partners and has a list of homeowners in the Berry Creek area that need immediate assistance. We will be sending a team on Tuesday to start work and continue assessments.
As the weekend continues, so does the intense rainfall with several flood and wind advisories in effect for portions of coastal California.
The National Weather Service has identified more Pacific storm systems to impact California through the weekend, bringing more rainfall to areas that have already been impacted. The first is anticipated to move through Saturday morning with a second forecast to arrive Monday. Along with the Major Disaster Declaration, Governor Newsom has declared a state of emergency across the state. All Hands and Hearts continues to monitor the situation and will be sending a team in to conduct an assessment when it is safe to do so.
The intense weather that has been affecting California since December of 2022 has brought severe winter storms, flooding, landslides, mudslides and debris flows. Yesterday, an Expedited Major Disaster Declaration request was made for California. According to FEMA, a “major disaster declaration provides a wide range of federal assistance programs for individuals and public infrastructure, including funds for both emergency and permanent work.” All Hands and Hearts is closely monitoring the situation, identifying ways we may be able to provide assistance.
Severe weather systems continue to bring high winds and heavy precipitation to California. Intense rain and potential flooding are expected through Friday, with the possibility of rockslides, mudslides and landslides. All Hands and Hearts continues to monitor the situation.
California has seen above average rainfall over the last several weeks and continues to deal with the impacts. Central and southern California are the most heavily impacted and more rain is forecast to continue through the end of the week. All Hands and Hearts is aware of the situation and is remotely monitoring it.
All Hands and Hearts is aware of and monitoring the relentless storms hitting communities of California causing deadly floods and mudslides. According to The Guardian, the storms’ impacts are leaving over 200,000 without power, pushing thousands to evacuate, and so far has caused 16 fatalities.
