Myanmar and Thailand Earthquake

The earthquake struck at 1:20 PM local time with an epicenter near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city. The powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake resulted in a 6.4 magnitude aftershock and tremors were felt across the region in areas like Thailand and China. Initial reports share that there have been 153 confirmed casualties and over 700 injured, although this number is expected to increase as recovery efforts continue. A powerful 7.7 magnitude struck Myanmar on Friday, March 28, with tremors felt in Bangkok, Thailand, 1400km away. At least three fatalities have been confirmed in Myanmar and at least one fatality in Thailand, as well as an unknown number of people still trapped in a high-rise building in Bangkok that collapsed. Myanmar has declared a state of emergency.
