Our team is meeting directly with families and partnering with City Life Center, a trusted local hub in Gary already known in the community for its back-to-school programs and support services, to make sure help reaches people where it’s needed most.
In one day, we delivered household cleaning kits stocked with mops, buckets, gloves, all-purpose cleaner, and laundry detergent. Families are already asking for more as they begin cleaning up and assessing the damage to their homes. Early estimates suggest around 100 homes have been damaged, and most affected families don’t have insurance to fall back on.

Without power, families are losing food to spoiled refrigerators, losing touch with loved ones as phones die, and, in some cases, losing access to medical equipment that depends on electricity.
Our top priority right now is getting generators to the households that need them most, including elderly residents and anyone relying on oxygen or refrigerated medication.

We’re working closely with local officials and partner organizations to determine what comes next, from clearing debris to helping families get their homes livable again and providing school supplies as students return to class.
We’ll continue to provide updates as our response in Gary grows and as we work alongside the community to address the most urgent needs.
