Hurricane Beryl Relief – Grenada

July 2024 – August 2024

AHAH responded to Hurricane Beryl in Grenada, assisting communities with debris removal and urgent repairs following widespread storm damage.

Disaster Profile

Lives and Livelihoods Impacted After Hurricane Beryl’s Deadly Path

Hurricane Beryl, the earliest recorded Category 5 storm to form in the Atlantic, made landfall in Grenada on July 1, first setting the record as the earliest Category 4 hurricane. The widespread destruction throughout the Caribbean has displaced thousands of people, impacting their livelihoods, food security and health. Smaller islands in Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, such as Union and Carriacou, have been particularly devastated, with 98% of homes and buildings destroyed. After inflicting heavy damage in Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and Mexico, Beryl slammed into Texas as a Category 1 hurricane on July 8, bringing deadly winds, storm surges and flooding.

Our Response

Providing Immediate Relief to Communities Impacted by Hurricane Beryl

Less than a week after Hurricane Beryl ravaged islands in the southeastern Caribbean, AHAH’s DART was on the ground. Currently stationed on the island of Carriacou, our team is providing immediate support to Grenadians by distributing food and essential supplies. After assessing the needs of affected islands across the region, AHAH opened a response program in Carriacou to aid survivors with debris removal. We also deployed a team to Texas, where we identified the needs of impacted communities to provide fast, efficient relief.
