Afghanistan Earthquake Relief

November 2025

In September 2025, a powerful earthquake struck the mountains of eastern Afghanistan, collapsing traditional homes and displacing thousands of families. All Hands & Hearts responded quickly to deliver emergency shelter, blankets, solar lights and kitchen supplies, working with local leaders to reach families scattered across steep, isolated villages. As winter set in, we followed with stoves, fuel and food to help communities stay warm and begin their recovery. In November 2025, a second major earthquake hit northern Afghanistan, deepening the crisis for the already disaster-affected country. Our team mobilized immediately, distributing large tents and warm blankets in Khulm and surrounding villages, helping families endure freezing temperatures while continuing their long path to rebuild after the September earthquake.

Disaster Profile

In September 2025, two powerful earthquakes struck the remote mountain villages of Kunar Province, Afghanistan, completely destroying homes and claiming more than 2,200 lives.

Over 3,600 people were injured, and tens of thousands were displaced as entire communities were reduced to rubble. With more than 90% of homes destroyed in some districts, families were left without shelter, clean water, schools, or access to medical care as harsh winter conditions rapidly approached.

Just over a month later, in November 2025, another major earthquake hit the northern provinces of Samangan and Balkh. The new destruction claimed at least 27 more lives and left hundreds without shelter amid cold rain, heavy winds and plunging temperatures. In hard-hit areas like Khulm district, families are sleeping outdoors or crowding into relatives’ homes as aftershocks continue and winter closes in, compounding an already dire humanitarian crisis.

Our Response

All Hands & Hearts (AH&H) rapidly mobilized in Afghanistan to support communities affected by two recent earthquakes, working closely with local volunteers and partners to provide urgent relief.

Shortly after the September 2025 earthquake struck Kunar Province, AH&H’s local team distributed essential relief items to small villages across Lachak Camp, Shalas Camp and Bainzo Camp. 100 families received solar power systems, blankets and kitchen sets to meet immediate needs for light, warmth and cooking.

Following the initial distributions, the team conducted a second round of aid in Patan Village, Nurgal District, supporting nearly 90 families. Families received heaters, gas cookers, propane tanks, and a one-month food supply.

Only a month later, following a new 6.3-magnitude earthquake near Mazar-i-Sharif in Northern Afghanistan, AH&H provided critically-needed shelter packs, including tents and blankets, to the hardest-hit communities around Kholm. This rapid, partner-led response supported over 100 families.

AH&H continues to assess needs in affected areas, supporting local partners to ensure families have access to safe, reliable aid. Through shelter, essential supplies, and community-led relief, we are supporting families to recover with safety, dignity and lasting support.
