Natural disasters (from the 2017 earthquakes to the 2025 flooding from Hurricane Priscilla) have damaged many schools across Mexico. In San Miguel Atlapulco (Puebla), four schools serving children from kindergarten through high school were severely impacted.

AH&H is restoring all four schools to provide safe, disaster-resilient learning environments by March 2027. Since 2009, AH&H has supported 45 schools and 6,900+ students in Mexico, as part of our global impact of 385+ schools supported and 1.7M+ lives impacted across 35 countries to date.

What We Are Building
This program directly supports 477 students and 22 teachers, representing over one-third of the town’s total population. The initiative impacts every stage of local education by providing safe, bright spaces at Papalocalli Kindergarten and essential handwashing stations, clean drinking water, and rainwater harvesting systems (WaSH initiative) at José María Morelos y Pavón Primary. Additionally, it delivers earthquake-proof, reinforced classrooms at Albert Einstein Secondary and an upgraded dining hall for daily meals at Héroes del 5 de Mayo.
- Disaster-Resilient Classrooms: Structural repairs and disaster-resilient classrooms.
- WaSH Facilities: Access to clean water, sanitation units, and rainwater collection systems.
- Outdoor & Shared Spaces: Playgrounds, upgraded school furniture, and facility updates.
- Community Trainings: Community disaster readiness training for students, teachers, and neighbors.
