This unprecedented rainfall has resulted in at least 163 lives lost and more than 640,000 people displaced. Although access to many roads has been limited due to damaged infrastructure and ongoing rainfall, All Hands and Hearts has committed to a two-month initial response, assisting communities impacted by these floods. This week, Brazil’s state of Rio Grande do Sul endured torrential storms, bringing heavy rains that caused life-threatening flooding and landslides to the southern regions. The severe weather has torn down bridges, destroyed infrastructure and flooded streets, making it hard for emergency services to provide life-saving support to affected areas. Thus far, 1,500 people are stranded, 21 people are missing and ten people have died.
