Nepal Monsoon Relief
August 2023 – December 2023
Last updated: October 2024
All Hands and Hearts (AHAH) responded to major flooding and landslides caused by monsoons in August 2023, working with local organization Relief Nepal to send teams where help was needed most. Local workers and volunteers helped to clear roads and construct a retaining wall to protect Shree Prathamik School from further soil erosion due to excessive landfall.
Our Work
AHAH partnered with Relief Nepal to carry out urgent response efforts at Shree Prathamik School in the Sindhuli District, where landslides posed a serious threat to the safety of students and teachers. In the initial stage of the response, they collaborated with local authorities and mobilized staff, masons and local volunteers to clear debris from roads damaged by floods. They then constructed a gabion retaining wall to protect the school from future landslide damage. This project helped protect the school from potential catastrophe and strengthened the community’s resilience against future disasters.
Disaster Profile
Severe and continuous rainfall from monsoons in August 2023 triggered multiple landslides and flash floods in several rural municipalities in the Sindhuli District of Nepal. Local governments helped the affected individuals and families by providing essential food distribution and non-food items. However, they also issued urgent appeals regarding the damages that occurred and asked for any support that organizations could provide for the affected households. Roads, homes and essential infrastructure were severely affected, posing significant risks to safety and daily life.
