Puerto Rico Hurricane Fiona Relief
September 2022 – October 2022
All Hands and Hearts deployed a Disaster Assessment Response Team (DART) to Puerto Rico in response to Hurricane Fiona. The team was mucking and gutting and chainsawing to support the affected communities.
Our Work
Our DART arrived in Puerto Rico on September 23, 2022, and spent two weeks working alongside ProTechos, a trusted partner who we worked alongside earlier in the year for our Puerto Rico Flood Relief program. While responding in Puerto Rico, the team assisted 23 homes in the Toa Baja and Toa Ville areas. Our work consisted of mucking and gutting, chain sawing, mold sanitation and power washing.
Disaster Profile
Hurricane Fiona made landfall over southwestern Puerto Rico on the afternoon of September 18, 2022, bringing Category 1 winds (86 mph) and heavy rain which caused life-threatening flooding, mudslides and power outages. According to FEMA, 644 people were evacuated to 87 shelters across Puerto Rico. This hurricane occurred nearly five years to the day since Hurricane Maria devastated the island.
