Guam Typhoon Mawar Relief
May 2023 – June 2023
In late May 2023, Typhoon Mawar landed in Guam as a Category 4 storm, causing extreme damage to the island. This disaster was the first significant storm to affect the region since Typhoon Pongsona struck in 2022.

Our Work
This unique relief program was operated from San Diego, California, where we worked alongside organizations with direct lines of communication with residents of Guam. Leveraging our dedicated network of alumni, five San Diego-based alum joined our efforts to provide typhoon survivors in Guam with essential supplies to support their recovery. Our team worked with the House of Chamorros and Sons and Daughters of Guam, representing over 20,000 Chamorros (indigenous people of Guam) in the San Diego area. With these partners, we helped to identify lists of critical supplies needed, collect donations and sort and prepare these supplies to be shipped and distributed to individuals impacted by the typhoon on Guam.
