REASON THREE: why VOLUNTEEr WITH ALL HANDS AND HEARTS
IT’S AS FLEXIBLE AND DIVERSE AS YOU ARE
MARCH 6, 2023
This year, we have already shared how volunteering with All Hands and Hearts (AHAH) can help you enact positive change and embark on your transformational journey.
But does volunteering with AHAH cater to you, wherever you are in life?
In the third of our “Why Volunteer with All Hands and Hearts” series, we share how our volunteer opportunities are as diverse and flexible as you are.
OUR VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ARE AS DIVERSE AND FLEXIBLE AS YOU ARE
Compassion transcends age, ethnicity and societal norms. We know this because we’ve welcomed volunteers up to 90 yeas of age from 144 nations who have lived and worked together as cohesive communities.
There are so many reasons why volunteering might fit your circumstances right now.
Maybe you’ve just graduated high school or college and are looking for career inspiration. Are you a college student seeking relevant volunteer opportunities to boost your resume? Perhaps you’re taking a career break, considering a move into the humanitarian field, or your employer regularly encourages you to take time out to volunteer. Maybe you just want to take a holiday with a purpose or spend some of your free time in retirement doing something meaningful.
So long as your health and fitness levels will allow you to engage with the work done on-site, our range of constantly evolving programs worldwide means there’s likely a perfect fit for you.
As of 2023, we’ve responded to disasters in 24 nations. In the immediate wake of a disaster, our volunteer opportunities revolve around: assessing damage to homes and community infrastructure; mucking and gutting, debris removal, mud clearing and mold sanitation after hurricanes (known as cyclones and typhoons internationally) and severe floods; “rubbling” after earthquakes and trimming or removing hazardous trees impacted by any type of disaster.
All Hands and Hearts arrives early and stays late. After the immediate wake of a disaster, we often transition to longer-term recovery work such as rebuilding disaster-resilient structures and mitigation projects. In Caribbean nations, such as The Bahamas and Puerto Rico, our volunteers have helped repair hurricane-damaged roofs. All across the United States, they’ve helped us fit new home interiors from drywall to cabinetry, doors and flooring.
Volunteers have helped us rebuild or repair more than 300 temporary learning centers and permanent school classrooms across the globe, including our latest completed school in Peru. In recent years our volunteer power has allowed us to switch scopes slightly and rebuild a vital health post in Nepal, respond to the wildfires in California and winterize refugee shelters in Poland.
So whether you’re 18 or 88 years old, wherever you’re from and whatever faith you might subscribe to, there’s a place for you amongst our volunteer ranks.
Don’t just take our word for it, hear from our volunteers.
If seeking a meaningful way to spend your free time is on your to do list for 2023 then what are you waiting for? Join us and feel part of something bigger than yourself.
