REASON FOUR: why VOLUNTEEr WITH ALL HANDS AND HEARTS
YOU’LL BE SUPPORTED EVERY STEP OF THE WAY
MARCH 29, 2023
This year, we have already shared how volunteering with All Hands and Hearts (AHAH) can cater to you at any stage of life, can help you enact positive change and help you embark on a transformational journey.
In the fourth of the ‘Why Volunteer with All Hands and Hearts’ series, we share how supported each volunteer is, every step of the way through their AHAH experience.
YOU’LL BE SUPPORTED EVERY STEP OF THE WAY
Providing our volunteers with all the information they need to feel fully informed and prepared is key to ensuring they have the most meaningful and enjoyable experience with us. That’s why each program has a dedicated Volunteer Coordination Manager as a point of contact for any and all questions and queries. We’ve also developed information hubs which provide details of how volunteers can best prepare and make the most of their time on program.
Our program team members on the ground take it in turns to be on duty overnight which means there is a staff member available 24/7 in case of an emergency. When you arrive on program you’ll be given a full orientation to make sure you’re aware of any potential risks to your safety as well as the support mechanisms in place. You’ll also receive full training on how to use various tools and carry out construction-related tasks. The post-disaster environment could potentially be tough on your mental health and we recognize that communal living can be tiring so we have a range of wellness resources.
We don’t want you to return home from having this transformative experience feeling disconnected from the friends you’ve made or struggling to adjust to your usual routines. We provide guidance on making that transition as well as advice on how you can reflect on your experience and leverage the highly transferable skills you’ve gained. After departing our program, you’ll be invited to access our Alumni Network where you can reconnect with friends from program, network with other departed volunteers and access a host of professional development resources and humanitarian training.
Don’t just take our word for it, hear from our volunteers.
Whether you have one day, two weeks or three months to spare, by showing up to one of our bases ready to be of service to others, you’ll earn back invaluable connections, unforgettable experiences and feel part of something bigger than yourself.
