GIVING TUESDAY
MAKE A LASTING CHANGE
NOVEMBER 22, 2022
THIS GIVING SEASON
Giving Tuesday, often referred to as #GivingTuesday, is a global giving movement. It is an international day of charitable support at the beginning of the holiday season, occurring yearly on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. #GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people to bring about real change in their communities and around the world.
Each year, All Hands and Hearts (AHAH) launches a campaign a week before this prominent day running through until the end of the year with the goal to raise $1,000,000 in undesignated funding to support our global programs. The theme of this year’s campaign is Start Here. It’s based on the belief that big change begins with a single step — one volunteer, one donation, one helping hand.
Against the backdrop of increasing extreme weather events, humanitarian and public health disasters, e.g., wildfires ripping across Europe, Hurricane Ian devastating Florida, a global pandemic and refugees fleeing Ukraine, now more than ever, we need to support disaster-affected communities.
THANK YOU
Thanks to the generosity of the AHAH community, last giving season we raised over $1.6 million. These funds were of vital importance in supporting our efforts to shorten the time between disaster and recovery for impacted communities at home and around the world.
This year, these crucial funds will provide AHAH with the flexibility to work where there is the most need in 2023. Since the funds raised are undesignated, we can move quickly to support communities impacted by disasters and commit to long-term programs to address not only their immediate needs post-disaster but provide a lasting impact.
Thanks to the support from last year’s campaign, we were able to commit to and complete crucial work such as our Nepal Relief program and Guatemala Hurricane Relief program.
NEPAL RELIEF PROGRAM
All Hands and Hearts’ Nepal Relief program addressed the long-term needs of the rural community of Dudhauli through the expansion of their local health post, helping to increase the capacity of the existing facilities and providing additional maternal care facilities. The gendered inequality in access to healthcare in Nepal was compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic and the country has seen a rise in maternal mortality rates.
$520,000 of the money raised through our year end campaign went directly to providing mothers, individuals and families with vital health care services. Without these funds, AHAH would not have been able to support the people of Dudhauli and progress toward achieving the reduction of the maternal mortality rate in Nepal.
GUATEMALA HURRICANE RELIEF
In the majority indigenous Q’eqchi’ region of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, All Hands and Hearts’ Guatemala Hurricane Relief program focused on increasing access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure such as drinking water, flushing toilets and handwashing stations. In Guatemala, only 19% of the population has access to improved water and sanitation services. Lack of basic WASH resources results in lifelong impacts on health, safety, food security and livelihoods. Working with the communities of Alta Verapaz and local partners, All Hands and Hearts brought comprehensive water and sanitation infrastructure and hygiene training to the region’s six most vulnerable schools.
$459,000 of the funds raised through our year end campaign supported AHAH’s efforts to complete 13 WASH facilities and install 13 water storage tanks, providing these schools with the access to the vital WASH systems they deserve, laying the foundation of healthy communities and brighter futures.
