ADVENTURES WITH ALL HANDS AND HEARTS
Adventures with All Hands and Hearts (AHAH) brings members of the All Hands and Hearts family together for a once in a lifetime experience whilst helping communities recover after disaster strikes. AHAH takes care of all the logistics allowing participants to focus on raising funds to build brighter futures for those affected by disaster and fully immerse themselves in the adventure.
INCA TRAIL TREK
Our most recent Adventure saw 13 friends of AHAH join to complete the profound, historic Inca Trail trek while raising funds to continue bringing disaster-affected children back to school. Collectively, the group raised $60,000 for All Hands and Hearts’ Education for All Fund, going directly to support our school campus rebuild programs around the world.
Tucked away in the gorgeous Andes mountains of Peru, the Inca Trail is a challenging 26 mile hike reaching a maximum elevation of 4,200m. This new group of friends spent four days hiking through the stunning, mountainous scenery before reaching the final destination of the historic Machu Picchu. Following in the footsteps of a great lost civilization, the trekkers tackled the challenging mountain passes, stood amongst ruins perched in a cloud forest and were awed by the snow-capped Andean views.
One adventurer, Courtney, shared:
“What would have already been the adventure of a lifetime was made even more fun and enriching because I was able to do it with this group of new and old AHAH friends. This trek holds a special place in my heart for those I was able to share it with, the awe-inspiring Inca history I was able to take in, and above all the cause that brought us together; supporting our ability to continue to bring disaster-affected children back to school.”
MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME
For many of the group, the most rewarding, but challenging, experience of the trek was hiking to the highest point of the trail, “Dead Woman’s Pass” (Warmiwansuca) with an altitude of 4,200M above sea level. For trekkers Greg and Alix, the stunning mountain views from the top of Dead Woman’s Pass were the most memorable moment of the trip. Alix shared the highs and lows of the day:
“Day two was a particularly tough day of both steep terrain and high elevation and there were a couple people in our group that had either not gotten enough sleep or were recovering from colds/ allergies. At sea level, no big deal. At 14,000 ft, it had a huge effect. We split into two groups and some of us stayed back to encourage and motivate those that were struggling. We passed a couple other groups that were in the same boat and cheered each other on as we leap frogged up the steepest part of the trek. It was extremely mentally and physically exhausting and there were definitely tears at the top when we finally made it, but it just highlighted how wonderful the group was and the camaraderie among AHAH people.” – Alix
